ERC is a 16-character code (0–9 and A–F) that the radio displays when it is locked. The unlock code is calculated from it, so you do not need the radio serial.
It depends on the unit. On many models the ERC appears automatically on the lock screen; on others you press and hold a preset or the information button for a few seconds while the radio shows the lock message. Check the owner's manual for your model.
On touchscreen units type it on the on-screen keypad and confirm with OK. On radios with buttons, use the preset buttons as described in the manual.
